Enjoy one of the biggest festivals of triathlon in New Zealand this Valentine’s Day! Tri Kinloch offers a sheltered Lake Taupo swim, a scenic ride and run, and a race village with amazing atmosphere!
Participants from across the country descend on Kinloch for this special event - some looking to team up with some mates or to try something new, others looking for a warm-up event, a speed-tester, a world champs qualifier or a national champs medal. Whether a first-timer or a seasoned pro, there’s a distance for you.
To protect the awesome water quality of the Great Lake Taupō Region from invasive freshwater threats (such as didymo & hornwort) the Tūwharetoa Māori Trust Board and the Department of Conservation require that you Check Clean Dry all your swimming equipment prior to entry into Lake Taupō. You must bring your wetsuit to the Athlete Breifing to be dipped at the Check Clean Dry (CCD) Station prior to registration. Please CCD your own equipment if training in Taupo earlier.
Parking
We have parking restrictions in place around Kinloch and all participants must use the car park that is provided for the event. Any other vehicles parked in private car parking or outside the car parking provided will be subject to being towed.
The car park for the event is located in the Kinloch Domain on Kinloch Road and will be well signed on event morning. See maps for location of car park
Venue Flow
This is a small venue with only one road in and out. When you are walking from the car parking please ensure that you use the footpath beside the Marina and if you are coming to the venue after 6:50am you will not be able to use the one-lane footbridge and will be requested to use the footpath beside the marina. Refer to the venue plan so you know how to get to and from the transition.
Swimming at the Venue
Kinloch is a very popular holiday location and especially with boaties. Please be aware that the swim course is located within a ski lane and you MUST NOT swim in this area outside of your event time. If you wish to warm up or practice please swim to the east of the boat ramp near transition.
Cycling around Kinloch prior to the event
If you are practicing the course please ensure that you kept left at all times and ride single file on the roads. You must always wear your helmet (law in NZ) and be aware of other road users and residents.
